A useful Google Business Profile audit starts with ownership and factual accuracy, then follows the path a prospective patient takes from Search or Maps to the correct office. For an established chiropractic practice, the goal is not to chase a perfect profile score. It is to keep each eligible location accurate, reachable, and measurable—and to avoid treating a call-button click, website click, or directions request as a booked or held appointment.
Use this owner checklist to review the Profile with your office manager or marketing provider. Record the evidence for each item, the person responsible, and the date it was checked. If you operate more than one location, complete a separate review for each eligible office.
1. Put the practice in control of access
The practice should retain primary ownership of its Business Profile and know which people and vendors have access. Google’s Business Profile ownership guidance says authorized representatives should encourage the business owner to own the Profile, add representatives as managers, and transfer ownership to the owner when requested.
- Confirm that an owner-controlled Google Account is a primary owner.
- Keep at least one trusted backup owner whose access is not tied to a departing employee or agency.
- List every current owner and manager, why access is needed, and who approves changes.
- Remove access that is no longer required, using the normal Google permissions process.
- Document the Profile URL, location identifier, recovery contacts, and support history in the practice’s account inventory.
An agency can manage the work without owning the asset. A handoff should explain what changed, which evidence supports it, and what the practice must maintain.
2. Match the Profile to the real practice
Review the Profile beside the practice’s signage, website, phone system, schedule, and location records. Google’s representation guidelines call for an accurate real-world name, precise address or service area, a small set of specific categories, and generally one Profile per business location.
| Profile field | Owner check | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Use the name consistently shown in the real world; do not add services, cities, or promotional keywords that are not part of it. | Exterior sign, stationery, and website header |
| Primary category | Choose the most specific category that describes what the business is, then use additional categories only when they represent the location. | Current category list and rationale |
| Address | Confirm street, suite, map pin, entrance, and whether patients are received there during stated hours. | Website location page and an in-person check |
| Hours | Match regular patient-facing hours and maintain special hours for holidays or temporary changes. | Scheduling system and office confirmation |
| Phone | Use a number controlled by the practice that reaches the correct location; test routing and after-hours behavior. | Dated test call and routing owner |
| Website | Send visitors to the correct practice or location page, not an unrelated office or generic third-party page. | Final URL, redirect result, and mobile check |
| Services | List only services actually available at that office, using language the practice can substantiate. | Current service list and clinical/legal approval where needed |
Do not use a Profile edit to imply a specialty, credential, service, or availability the office cannot support. Clinical wording should follow the practice’s professional and legal review process.
3. Check the patient-facing path on a phone
View the live Profile in Google Search and Maps as a prospective patient might. This is a usability review, not a request to manufacture searches, clicks, reviews, or appointments.
- Can someone distinguish this office from other locations with a similar name?
- Do the map pin, exterior photo, entrance details, and hours help a first-time visitor arrive at the right place?
- Does the call action reach the correct front desk or approved phone flow?
- Does the website action land on a fast, readable page for this location?
- Does the booking path preserve the chosen location and explain what happens next?
- Are photos current, owned or licensed for use, and free of private patient information?
Stop before submitting a form or appointment unless the office has provided an approved test method. A working button is not enough: the destination, confirmation, routing, and staff responsibility all need an owner.
4. Review public information without inventing a posting formula
Google says complete and accurate information can help a business appear for relevant local searches. It describes local results as mainly based on relevance, distance, and prominence, and says there is no way to request or pay Google for better local ranking. See Google’s local ranking guidance.
That supports a practical maintenance routine, not a ranking guarantee:
- Review suggested edits and unexpected changes before inaccurate information persists.
- Use current photos that help people recognize the office, team, and patient-facing environment.
- Respond to reviews professionally under the practice’s privacy policy; do not reveal or confirm a reviewer’s patient status.
- Publish updates when there is something useful and accurate to communicate, rather than following an arbitrary posting count.
- Check that the linked website repeats the same essential office facts and provides more detail where visitors need it.
More activity is not automatically better. The useful standard is whether the information helps someone evaluate and reach the real practice.
5. Read Profile actions by their actual definitions
Business Profile performance can show how people found and interacted with the Profile, but each metric has a limited meaning. Google’s current performance documentation defines calls as call-button clicks, website clicks as clicks on the website link, and directions as requests for directions. Google reports completed bookings only when bookings are managed through an eligible provider.
| Profile metric | What it supports | What to verify next |
|---|---|---|
| Views | The Profile was viewed under Google’s counting method. | Which location and time period; do not infer an inquiry. |
| Searches | Terms people used when the Profile appeared. | Whether the terms match services and locations the practice actually offers. |
| Directions | A person requested directions. | Arrival or appointment status is not established by the request. |
| Calls | The call button was clicked. | Use approved phone reporting to determine whether a call connected and became a qualified inquiry. |
| Website clicks | The Profile’s website link was clicked. | Use consent-compliant website analytics to inspect the landing page and later actions. |
| Bookings | A booking was completed through an eligible connected provider. | Reconcile location, cancellation, attendance, and qualification separately. |
Build a measurement ladder instead of one blended “conversions” total: Profile interaction → connected call or website visit → qualified inquiry → booked appointment → held appointment → accepted new patient, when the practice can measure each step lawfully and reliably. Report unavailable steps as unavailable, not zero.
6. Separate locations before combining results
For a multi-location practice, each eligible office needs accurate facts, an appropriate Profile, a matching website destination, and a named local verifier. Google’s guidelines say locations under one brand should use consistent real-world names and, when they provide the same service, consistent primary categories.
Keep reporting by office long enough to find broken paths. A combined total can conceal an outdated phone number, wrong booking destination, or unreviewed holiday hours at one location. The multi-location chiropractic SEO guide covers the supporting page-and-Profile structure.
7. Use a simple pass, revise, or blocked handoff
Finish the audit with an owner-readable decision table. For example:
| Area | Decision | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Ownership | Pass | Reconfirm access quarterly and during every staffing or vendor change. |
| Hours | Revise | Office manager corrects special hours and records the live result. |
| Booking link | Blocked | Scheduler owner supplies an approved location-specific destination and test method. |
| Clinical service wording | Blocked | Practice obtains the appropriate professional review before publishing. |
| Reporting | Revise | Marketing provider separates Profile actions, inquiries, bookings, and held appointments. |
Bring in an SEO provider when the practice needs help diagnosing visibility, coordinating multiple locations, correcting website and Profile inconsistencies, or building reporting across the patient path. Ask the provider to document access, edits, sources, and measurement definitions. No provider can buy an organic local ranking from Google.
